“Self Defense, Self Confidence and Fun!”
That’s the slogan for Magen Zion – a different type of program for a different kind of summer. A summer for adventure and challenge. The summer months are a time to be active and learn new skills that a person can take into the following academic year. Momo Lifshitz, the CEO of Magen Zion, has been running academic programs and trips for 25 years. Now, through the Magen Zion program, he wants to give teenagers a unique summer experience where one can learn skills and accumulate memories that will last a lifetime.
Participants come to Israel, the home of the martial art known as Krav Maga, where they spend three weeks training side-by-side with former combat trainers from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). Krav Maga is a fusion of various martial arts styles such as boxing, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and wrestling, that also incorporates military techniques. Through teaching these techniques, the trainers ensure that participants have a summer that is educational, fun and builds positive character traits.
Not only do participants come out of this program being stronger both mentally and physically, but they also know how to better defend themselves in a world where such techniques can be useful at a time when it is least expected of them. Back at home, participants can incorporate these quick-on-your-feet techniques into their normal sporting activities, while also feeling confident that they can protect family and friends if ever the need arises.
It’s a summer program like no other where students come out with lasting friendships, memories and skills that last a lifetime. Amidst all of the training and adventures, participants have the chance to tour Israel – a country rich in culture and history. Along with visiting Israel’s incredible attractions, their instructors will also be able to show them firsthand how both ancient and modern Israel used brilliant military tactics to overcome incredible odds and repelled invading forces. Upon their return home, participants will be sharing stories about their experiences that cannot be matched by any of their friends.
